Bubyan Port

Kuwait — nibaq on September 28, 2004 at 12:27:32

Well seems the government is ready to start the Bubyan port project. This will be a very big thing in Kuwait and it has been something in Kuwait’s history for long time. The Ottoman’s, the British, Iraq, and the US have been persuing this for ages., since it will be a gateway to the Gulf.

This project is going to last over 30 years and be a huge multi-stage construction process. Which is
strange since according to After doing some more searches I found this Arab Times Article on the Bubyan Project and the natural concerns there.

“One of the rare breeds of birds like the Crab Plover has1 , 600pairs breeding on Bubiyan. The next biggest population of these species is about 40 pairs.” He said there are about 18 other species which breed only on Bubiyan Island. These include falcons, flamingos and gulls. “Most of the world’s population of birds breed here making it the most import breeding ground in the whole Western Paleoartic - UK, Central and Western Europe, Turkey and the rest of the Middle East,” Dr Loughland emphasized.

And Bubyan also meets 4 out of the 6 criterias to make it a protected habitat and finding a place that just meet 1 of those criteria is rare.

I hope the government is planning is right and not destroy our natural wildlife.

  2. I’ve seen that old desert when you cross over to Saudi, or visit Kabd and the radio place there thats
all fenced and seeing arfaj like a carpet all over.

My father said that how Kuwait was when he was going up. I just dont want that happening to Bubyan. I
want to say to my child “lets go swim or fish in the gulf” and not “back when I was growing up we were
able to swim and fish in the gulf”.
