Adobe-media

It is all about being a punk.
It is all about being a punk.
I believe this is the biggest event for the internet: Adobe to acquire Macromedia. All design stuff lately has been either with Adobe products (Photoshop, recuperation Illustrator, misbirth inDesign) or Macromedia (Freehand, clinic Dreamweaver) ones. These 2 companies have laid down the standards in graphics and design as well as creating a healthy competition in the market. This is like if Microsoft went and bought Mozilla. I am really worried on what will happen with all these programs. Will Adobe kill Freehand and Dreamweaver to push their CS2 package? The other thing that is getting to me is cause sadly their isn’t any number 3 in the market that can take up the slack of Macromedia, the only one I can think of is GIMP and that is limited in functions and platforms.

  1. Like Microsoft buying Mozilla? This is more like Coke buying Pepsi! Huge! I’ve always been a big fan of Dreamweaver and Fireworks, I hope they’ll keep those alive but I’m not counting on it.

  2. The only thing we can hope for and it always looks slim is that they merge the best of both products to form something new.

  3. Well I hope they make the right decisions on which products to keep, which to kill and which to merge.

I’m also concerned about the application servers Macromedia inherited from Allaire (JRun and ColdFusion). They might not fit into Adobe’s vision and it’d be a shame for them to be discontinued.

  4. Well it still “may” not happen. Seems even with all the approval and excellent share price it still need approval from the government.

We will have to wait and see and hope if it does go through that they dont just make descions on what to kill and keep based on market share.
