Something occured a while ago that has me thinking of well death. Remembered something I used to do back in the day. I got friends all over the place, viagra on the internet, click different cities and countries and contact them occasionlly. One of the sucky things about having online friends is sometimes they just disappear for random reasons and you always wonder. Did they find something else, ascariasis die, something happened to them. You always wonder when they just go away. It is not like you can go to their house and check up on them.

Well so I would right in my yellow note pad everytime I started a new one a list of people to be contacted on the event of my death. I would have IRC names, email address, and numbers. The list was nothing spectacular very basic list of names that would be able to contact the rest of the people from that group.

I haven’t made that list in a while since I’ve gotten a lot close with my friends even over distances. The blog helps a lot in that respect.

So if you died now, would you have friends that wouldn’t know about it? How long would it take them to find out? How far away are they from zero?

  1. You dont need to be on the list your are within zero hour.

For the will you can have my collection of Hello Kitty sex toys.

  2. i always think of this…. i never thought of doing a list though.

I also wonder, what if a blogger dies? Won’t it be sad if their blog remains the way it is… no notice of death or anything….

  3. i just remembered… around a year and a half ago, my brothers friend died. i got calls from people in Lebanon since they thought it was my brother who died. news gets through sometimes… not the right news…

  4. Deep thoughts with Nibaq…

Being so far from home I think it would be some time before even my MOTHER was notified. Come to think of it… I don’t think anyone here besides (MAYBE) my HR dept would know who to contact or how to get ahold of them. I suppose E.K. would find out through the work gossip mil and notify the blog world… Interesting and sad.

  5. Interesting thought.

I wouldn’t worry about friends and family in Kuwait. They all fall under the zero day (to be conservative) category. I would worry about friends overseas. I’m mostly the only connection in the network. Meaning they don’t know any of my friends here or my family to be informed.

My host mom just became friends and pen-pals (shakhbari) with my mother, so maybe i should introduce my other friends to my family or friends in kuwait.

My host mom being sick, i’m worried about being late to know her ultimate news allah laygoola. My contact with her is once per month or so, so that would put me in her zero-month category.

  6. Hmmm that is such a morbid thought! I don’t think I would write a list, however I do have somewhat of a will. I told my lil sis about how she was included and it got her really depressed. Should have thought that one through :/

  7. I used to maintain a list in ’01-02. I also gave one of my bestfriends my passwords for my email addresses so she could send out mass emails (ooooh the drama).

One day I needed her to fish some info out of one of my accounts and she confessed that she had accidently deleted the email with my passwords.

So yeah…no list anymore. Some people will know immediately & others days, weeks, months, years, never.

Life goes on. Assume the worst. Move on. R.I.P.

P.S. I am too lazy to write out my will so I bequeath everything to you. Keep what you like, give away the rest.

  8. It’s one of the reasons why my sister and I share almost all the same online friends. If something happens to either of us, we know were to go and place and announcement.
The online community I visit is very tight, and we can pretty much contact each other irl if we get worried. There’s always someone who has someone’s addy/phone number irl. One of them did actually pass away and I still say his name in my prayers – he was a cool fella, Allah yir7ama.
