In total geek fashion I have achieved a small part of my dream in life. To have 3 monitor computer setup. I currently have 2 now and it just pure bliss. One my left side I have my pbook (connie) and on the right my ubuntu linux (repo) working side by side. Now you may be wondering why does he have 2 keyboards and 2 mice for this crazy setup. Well I dont have I just have 1 thanks to Synergy2. This thing is amazing, with one movement I am on the other computer and typing and switching and forth just working away.
It is such a wonderufl experience I dont know how I could have lived without it before. One screen has my chats, and rss, and other information. The other with web browsing and other interactive goodness. Yet I dream of that 3rd one. I want another machine running windows then everything will be complete.
Some of you are wondering why do I need all this screens. What could I possibly be doing with all these things. Well truthfully normal people wouldn’t get it, and if you have to ask then you wouldn’t understand. For me it is all about information and really multitasking. It just frees up so much screen real estate and just gives me that extra feel for interaction.

  1. Is it bad if I say that setup turns me on? Though I’m not sure why you want a Windows box…ok, I am, but you know you’re selling out. Stick with Mac and the varied incarnates of linux!!

  11. The windows is just for well menial work really like torrent downloads. I haven’t seen a better program that uTorrent for downloads and well Windows is also a good media player.

Not sure on my Linux setup. The more I use it the more I feel strange about it. It just doesn’t do it for me. I recall back when I was on Slackware ages ago it was cool and nimble and had all sorts of cool features. Now having it side by side with my OSX I just see how much the Linux/BSD crew have to catch up on the whole GUI interface. I dont plan to stick to Linux as a personal choice. The main reason I am installing it and playing with it is for a storage/fileserver system hence the name Repo short for repository.

I will most likely add another screen for my pbook to give it 2 screens. So will need to get a HDMI->Vga convertor.
