When I visit a coffee shop or a public place with my pbook I make a effort to have my back against the wall so that no one can come behind and shoulder surf. It just feels akward and just an invasion of privacy.

So if you have this issue too and use Windows then I suggest this program: TunnelVision. It is a free program made by the same guy who did WinAmp. It blacks out your whole screen and only the area where your mouse is becomes visible, buy thus blocking most of the screen and any place where you eyes aren’t.

You can can control the size and shape of the visible area, as well as the color of the black out, or even make it an image.

This is a really handy program think I will even use it at work when I have people over.

Now I need to see if there is one for MacOSX one.

  1. I get a lot of those shoulder surfers myself too. Once I had 2 ladies openly watching what I’m doing, as I can’t find any other place to sit.

So I downloaded & put them a lesbian porn pic to feast their eyes on. Their reaction was priceless. And THEY moved. ;)

  2. I wouldn’t feel too comfortable surfing the net in public unless it was for something really necessary.

People just can’t help but shoulder surf! Heaven knows I read the newspaper with the person on the table or seat next to me – in a sly manner.

    And MiniR, you are hysterical!

  3. I personally hate porn. I just did it for the pleasure of the goggle-eyed ladies there. My tactics in dealing with people may seem harsh, but I find them funny sometimes.

    Jewaira: love you too ;)

  4. R: So where did you find this porn if you hate it some much?

J: News papers are different, it is public, he cna pick up the same paper and read the same thing. It is annoying when it emails, blogs, or any other personal thing. I dont mind someone taking a glance and keeps walking, just dont sit behind me and correct my spelling.

  5. Nibaq: Interesting you of all people should ask that question. Google of course!
My theory that shoulder surfing is an art that has existed since the railroad boom. Passengers all crammed together reading from a single sheet of paper.
