I ussually dont know where to put posts like these, look should they belong in KuwaitBlogs.com, here or just not post them at all. So figure just put it here.

Been working on Safatoo so that we can have a complete switch from Safat. Yet been facing some crazy weird upgrade issues with Safatoo with the MySQL stuff and it has been really annoying. Some of you may have noticed some issues with it on Wed.

It is really tough finding a good web based aggregator that just places stuff on a page based on time. Most are oriented for personal aggregators and have their own system. I been using Drupal as the base for Safat and really it is the best I’ve seen, complicated and annoying at times but it is a work horse.

Hopefully I plan to get some hack working for Safatoo “soon” so that I can do some more upgrades on it and have it stable. One issue we been having is the update problem it just doesn’t do it. That is one of the reasons I removed that shiny /aggregator/ look and have it more ugly looking on the address bar. I think that solved the problem but still need to do an upgrade.

One thing I been thinking about is that Drupal has some great features in it and I just use one, the aggregator. So been thinking of using some more. Like creating a Kuwait Blogs forum in it as well as giving users a personal space for things.

I have been bouncing the idea via some friends and not getting a real positive response. Also is it something that I want to focus on, and that is it part of the core competencies of Kuwait Blogs? Some of you may have tested my chat server for Kuwait Blogs. It was an interesting experiment but I really didn’t find it viable for people cause then you’d have people chatting and not blogging. As well as if people want to chat with each other they figure out how to do it via MSN mass chats and just meeting each other.

There are some other things I need to free up some time on and dedicate a good couple hours to set it up. One is moving from MT to WP Yet I plan to do that after the Safatoo->Safat thing and readd the blogs on the blog roll from Safatoo’s list since that is the newly update and authenticated list.

There some other stuff that I am thinking about working on, doing some research on it and playing with it in my brain. This one is more for Arab community more than the Kuwait one.

So there it a quick synopsis on what I been working on and what I am planning. Any insights of suggestion I am up for. Also a big thanks to my Safatoo Goddesses for adding the blogs on there and dealing all those add blog requests. I dont know what I would have done with out you guys.

On Friday some friends and I were having a simple lunch when the conversation of venereal disease came up. It was about how do you get this, viagra 60mg
or what is the difference between this and that, this lead to me busting out my phone and accessing wikipedia for information and reading out loud how you get these diseases and their symptoms while munching on our lunch and breadsticks.

So today when I found this great Disney cartoon explaining venereal diseases. I just had to share it:

This is so much better than the menstruating one.

I been hammering it out with Feeds.KuwaitBlogs.com since I got home. I love just bashing it with WordPress and its PHP and template tags. Finally getting FeedWordpress to work is just great. I’ve tried it before but had issues with it not updating and an aggregator not updating is no use at all.

So here is where the fun begins. I hammered out some good stuff with it. I tried to recall all the issues we have had with Safat, cialis 40mg and even just getting a decent RSS feed setup for it.

One issue that people always hated and I spent ages with other programs trying to cut it was the long posters. You know the ones, unhealthy you just see it and then page long post about nothing. Well NO MORE. Little edit in the code and it will just show excerpts of the posts. So now you can get a quick glance of the post and continue down not having to read the whole thing, and this also removes pictures. Yes, pictures are pretty, but when you want to see what is new, and have to wait for a picture to load, or take up space it gets annoying.

Another feature, more of a hack is RSS feed of it. It is nothing exciting except for people who use. It will give you a better idea of who posted as Blog Name : Post Title, and attribute the author to Blog Name. It is something I felt was important cause seeing a list of posts on my personal aggregator I had no idea who posted that post unless I clicked on it to see author. This way you know which blog it came from.

The other thing that really helps out cause of excerpts is that it now will show you a days worth of post on the first page. Previous pages will show the previous day posts. This will really make it easier for people to read up on a days worth of posts and not have to hit previous all the time to catch up.

Since each aggregated posts is added to the blog, it makes it all searchable and archival . This feature is not that exciting now. But I believe in the future as more content is added it will really help out trying to find out information, and a zeitgeist of mood during the time.

I am going to mess with the theme for a bit, to find a really basic one that shows the content, as well as keep things to the minimum. I plan to remove the blog roll and have it on a separate page since that isn’t information people need to know. The sidebar will just contain the Kuwait Blog’s posts, and KuWiki (once I bring it back) ones.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for themes, and such, or even what to have on the side bar concerning Kuwait just drop it in the comments.

My Dates

I just signed up for 30 Boxes online calendar web appl after reading some reviews on it on the blog circuit. I ussually always try any new web app to see what it is and how it forms and such. Most of the time what I read about it just pure hype and the thing just doesn’t have that appeal to it.
Well 30 Boxes is AMAZING. Everyone should join this thing, prosthesis this is the Flickr (which it also intergrates with) of calendars.

One example on how easy and wonderful it is by adding a date. you just do Kuwait National Day Feb 25 repeat yearly tag Kuwait this will make Feb 25 marked as Kuwait National Day and repeated yearly with the tag of Kuwait.

It is really that simple and so smooth. You can also have Buddies and share your calenders with. This is something that I am going to have my friends do since we have such varied schedules and it is tough to coordinate or even know what they are doing.

If you are looking for a great calendar app then this is it. I think what makes it so specail that it integrates with your life. I have my blog on there, flickr pics and soon my friends.

I been wanting to do one of these for ages, gerontologist especially before my upgrade to Tiger so I can remember what to install again. Luckily Om Malek started a meme on his top ten Mac apps. I posted a comment on my 10, symptoms but after some consideration I revised mine, nurse and added more info and my reasons for it and here it is:

Quicksilver: I dont know how my Mac usage would be without this great app. It just allows me to do everything from the keyboard. I can open files, launch/quit applications, access my bookmarks, have a clipboard catalog and just so much more. If this isn’t in your Applications folder then you are really missing out.

Adium: This is the best chat client for Mac. It just works. One feature that I love is the chat window with Tabs. So instead of having multiple chat windows scattered all over my screen I have just one with tabs in the bottom of the people who I am talking to. A quick Apple Left/Right allows me to switch between them. Also that it supports almost every type of IM system is also an added plus.

TextWrangler: BBedit’s younger brother, but still a powerful and rich text editor. I like using this editor for its ability to open and saves on remote servers, and having a tabbed option. This allows me to access a file on the server, while keeping a control copy on my side to compare what I am doing with what is happening. And to make sure what I am doing is right, it has syntax coloring. These features haven’t even scratched the surface of what it can really do.

OmniWeb: This is my offical web broswer. I can talk about it features over and over again, but if you have to ask, then you wouldn’t understand.

NetNewsWire Lite: I love this RSS aggregator it is light, quick and easy on the eyes, and takes very little CPU and its FREE! It is so simple to use, just hitting Spacebar to move from post to post and if it is a long post it does a page down.

iTerm: I love Terminal.app I am on the CLI regularly, either accessing my servers, or chatting on IRC, but it has its restrictions, like no ANSI, or the PageUp/Down options; so it can be quite aggravating. iTerm fixes all those little problems and gives you much more like tabbed options and bookmarks.

Cocoalicious: I am a del.icio.us fiend. I have the bookmarklet on all my browsers. It is really the only way to bookmark for me now. I enjoy it since I can maneuver from multiple PCs, and browsers and still have my bookmarks. Also it allows me to continue reading what I started somewhere else. Since all my browsers support RSS they are a quick click away. Yet the main issue I have is trying to find old bookmarks, or even just categorizing my new ones properly. Cocoalicious allows me to access my bookmarks on my Mac. It sorts them as tags, or I can for search them, then edit them on the fly from the program without having to visit del.icio.us to do it.

Growl: Growl isn’t an app per se, but a system notification utility. I currently have it setup to inform me when I receive new IMs in Adium, this way I dont have to flip over to the other desktop to see what that person said. I also have it to inform me when I receive new mail and it shows From, Subject, and a few lines from the message. Also I have it with Dictionary, just Apple-F and it will lookup the word and inform me of the definition without having to actually open Dictionary.app and see it. Growl has a lot of features for many more apps, but this is what I just use it for.

Services Manager: I dont know how this little program existed under the radar for so long. This thing is a savior. When OSX first came out and that services menu was all shiny and simple. You could do quick web searches, create text documents from selected text etc with just a keystroke. Yet as more and more programs incorporated their options to the Services menu and it just got all cluttered. This program will remove that clutter, and redefine the keystrokes to access them. According to some people your boot time will also get faster since OSX isn’t checking for services that are on if you have many applications.

Desktop Manager, this I can consider my killer app for mac usage. I just love the ability to have more than one desktop active. I currently have 3 desktops. One just for my web sufring, the other for messaging (IM, Mail etc) and the other misc for Finder, and other apps. So switching between them is a breeze just a quick key stroke and some cool visualazation and I am on another desktop with those active apps. This is great if you are a power user, or have a small screen like a laptop and running too many windows and can’t conentrate on each one.

Notable Mentions:
VLC, mPlayer, MacStumbler, Smultron, Imagewell, TinkerTool, X Resource Graph, SideTrack.

Oh No Lemmings!

Some guy had the time and energy to make the game Lemmings playable on your web browser. It is pretty cool, thumb
the levels are just like I remeber them, find
and comes with sound and such, but I have tried that since I have sound turned off.

So if your looking for some time to kill and feel nostaligic play some Lemmings!â„¢

Been so lazy lately, steroids just not in the mood to post, cheap find some good stuff and have some pics of things that I want to post, but just havent had the urge to just go and post it. Today forced me to get and do some online stuff due to the hack that happened. Also was due to laziness, didn’t upgrade wordpress to 1.5.2 or drupal to latest version. Didn’t even know Drupal had a major upgrade. Both those hacks were due to the xmlrpc call.
So need to do some fixes and updates and of course backups. I usually do just SQL backups, but Rami suggest doing full directory backups. I will start doing that, make some cron job and have it email it to my gmail account.
Had Wimpys in Nuzha earlier tonight, good stuff. Dont recall the old stuff tasted like, but this stuff was good.

Emacs is an evil creation.

Our own Wataniya Telecom is joing up with some other companies to form Bravo in Saudi Arabia as a mobile telecom provider. Yet they are not going to provide GSM service, viagra 40mg but Motorola’s iDen system. The iDen system is the stuff that Nextel uses for their network, drugs so this new company will most likely be providing services to the business in that region, order especially the trucks that pass through the country.

This is a good investment for Wataniya since Saudi Arabia is the main transport section of the Gulf, everything passes through Saudi and I know that keeping track of trucks where abouts is a pain in the ass. So if it is implemented strongly in Saudi then it will eventually move to the other countries in the region so that they can all share the same network when moving around.

I believe once the coverage map for this network reaches Kuwait, it won’t be too long before Wataniya will start to offer this service in Kuwait.

This is a clip from The Goddess Bunny movie. I am really lost for words with this one. This is one of the most disturbing videos I have ever seen.

So after much time and random other stuff (laziness) I have finally moved to Tiger on my pbook. It didn’t take long at all thanks to firewire and bozwayed’s pbook where I dumped my whole home directory, see formated then installed Tiger, price and copied it back over so I can pick and choose what I need and backup the rest for later refrence.
I am trying to get rid of the legacy stuff that I been carrying on my laptop for like 5 years. I been thinking of just getting rid of my old mail messages, sildenafil but not sure will sleep on it and think about it in the morning. I think I might just import them all back in Mail they are good refrence for some old stuff like emails and other conversations since I dont have any other place to access them later quickly and efficiently.
Currently redownloading latest things of everything and I can see my bandwidth just getting a beatdown currently. I will also need to do a software update and some other stuff.
Also once TextWrangler is installed created a todo list of sorts to keep track of what I added, deleted and changed.
So far tiger rocks my socks, need to get rid of Dashboard, taking up space in my dock and really dont need it at all. It seems like a big lag on my system.

Ever wondered where Sony got its name? Or Apple Computers?

Well seems that Sony is fom the Latin word ‘sonus’ meaning sound, allergist and ‘sonny’ a slang used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.

Apple got theirs because Steve Jobs needed to file a name for the company if no one had anything better he would file it under Apple his favorite fruit.

Been having some major issues with connecting to GPRS via my SE P910i and OSX Tiger. It connects for a second then just disconnects due to some error in settings or some crap, arthritis and it was pissing me off, pancreatitis tried different passwords, and logins, and PPP options.

Finally after searching on the net found this website: Ross Barkman’s Apple Modem Scripts. I downloaded the ones for Sony Ericsson, read the READ ME (Always Important) and picked the Sony Ericsson GPRS CID1 modem and it worked on the first try.

Connection is stable and been so far connected for 8 minutes and no problems, let me do a speed test on this thing.
