The Terri Schiavo craziness in the US has me scratching and sniffing on what the hell is going on. Luckily I found this article on the matter with background info on the case and Terri’s condition and the family who are fighting for her.

Yet it still raises more questions like: why does congress have to get involved with something that doesn’t concern them; especially when the courts have been handling very well . Even the US Supreme Court rejected hearing the case from the parents of Terri, order cause they know its not their problem and dont want to get their hands dirty.

I dont get why congress did this or even got in session to deal with it. I dont know who or what is to get power from this? It seems like a very strange move. It is kind of like the Islamics in the government trying to ban Star Academy from coming to Kuwait which was just a show of power and saying we still exist. Cause Star Academy came and performed anyway. I really believe this will be a double edge sword for the people congress who voted for this bill. It will strengthen their core people, and the will lose the people on the fringe same as what happened after that Star Academy debacle.

So as soon as I got home with my new car, resuscitator
my mom told me to go break eggs on it in the morning. I never knew why we did that, but always when ever someone in our family got a new car we broke eggs on the tires. But now she tells me to break eggs on it again when I got it repaired. I really dont know what culture thing is behind it. I am sure its to keep away bad spirits or something.

Anyone have the reason for this?

Yesterday we stopped by Muthana Complex and decided to visit the Kuwait Book Shop. Kuwait Book Shop is considered the premier book shop in Kuwait and keeps a good supply of new and classical books in their inventory. Yet the Arabic section of the book shop was about 1/5th if not less of the regular English section.

It reminded me of MMM’s post on the status of Arabic literature. The statistics are just shameful:

  • Arab countries’ output of books represents just 1.1 percent of the world total, this although Arabs constitute 5% of the world’s population. This is less than what a country such as Turkey produces, with a population about one-quarter that of the Arab countries.
  • The Arab world translates about 330 books annually, one fifth of the number that Greece translates.

I myself dont read much Arabic literature, cause there hasn’t been something or someone saying “This book is amazing you must read it”, or reading reviews on Arabic books. It real seems like a dead section in our Arab world. Even classic like the Cairo Trilogy gets more respect with its English translation.

I think censorship is to blame, as well as no cultural funding as well, and that no one encourage someone to write, but I guess that can be associated to self censorship. Another cultural factor is that we are a very verbal culture, stories and history is passed down orally, stuff rarely gets written down. One example is Kuwait’s history. Going to a Diwaniya of old people for one night will give you more information than all the history books about Kuwait put together.

Also another factor is the Arabic keyboard. I think it is one of the most evil creations ever. Its the a reason if not the only one that there aren’t Arabic blogs. Its a mess and not made for people to learn easily or quickly, especially when we are used to the English QWERTY keyboard.

You always heard about certain bands have the voice of Satan, order
or placing subliminal messaging in their music to make you do evil things for Satan.

Well this guy took some of the songs that were rumored to have certain things said when played backwards. He has Stairway to Heaven, Pokemon Rap and Hit Me Baby One More Time to name a few. Some are pretty cool to listen to cause they do say something the rest I think are asking if I want to up size my Hardeez meal.
