Tiredness sleep.

Tiredness sleep.

What a day; this was a full museum trifecta.

The first one that I went to was the Gezira Art Center: Musuem of Islamic Ceramics.

This was a great musuem that had ceramic art ranging from the Fatimiya/Abasyia period and the all the way till if I recall correctly the Ottoman empire.Really wonderful works you can see the many influnces from Persian and even Chinese art in thse pieces in terms of color and brush styles. There were two peices that caught my eye. One was a regular jug but the Persian writing was in reverse, drugs I pointed it out to the curator and even he was astonished bny it for he never noticed it. The other was more of a pcractical thing, some juges came with artistic war filtering system that would block debris in the water from coming out.

After this musuem it was the Mohammed Mahmood Khalil Musuem. This one is a totally different collection. It is based on Khalil private collection of contempary European art. There was a Van Gogh, Renior, Monet and many others. There was also a large collection of small Chinese boxes and I guess from the few that were opened had some religous or scenic thing.

After a light lunch it was time for the Musuem of Egyptian Modern Art and this was really overwhelming. I really can’t go into explaining or even capturing the stuff that is in here. They were filling the walls with art and it was so many. So many colors, shapes and styles. I was talking to the guy there and he told me there is even more in storage. Such a shame for it is great stuff, but just so much to take in at one sitting.

This is where I got a bit lost. I decided to walk to my hotel. I recalled from the taxi ride that the Marriot hotel, which is a great place to stay in Cairo. Good location, nice rooms (Zamalek Tower) and great facilities in food and others.

So I started walking, and walking and um walking. I asked a couple times and they said it was straight and I knew it was, but they also mentioned it was a long way and boy it was long.

But I enjoyed it I was checking out street signs and taking pictures of them. I was walking on Om Khaltom road and just kept taking pictures of the street sign and the cool or strange part was that each street sign had a differt stytle adn sometimes name for her. Either Mrs Om Khalthom or just Om Khalthom or just Arabic.

This also gave me a chacne to walk in to the Cairo neighborhoods and it is filled with some great life. Really feels just wodnerful walking in the city with the people livin gtheir lives around you.

I kept walking and finalyl think I got whereII needed to be and still felt lost, then I recall this building I took pictures of from my hotel room and it was infront of me and was just across the street. I got back around 8 and was dead tired.

Oh the picture that is attached has a strange story. The Islamic art musuem is located in an old castle/palace built around early 1900s and this watch was located in the upstairs bathroom by the sink where the mirror would be. It was just strange for it to be there and especially at that time.

I remember playing this game on my old 286 and it was on a 5.25 floppy drive, page
and was actually good at it if I recall correctly.

Now I cant even get 5 lines done. I think I need to get some practice in.

I am a Mac guy, look but use Windows at work and always get asked what is the best anti virus program. Luckily someone has made a And nice lsit of tested antivirus programs, and two that got high marks are FREE.

One is AVG Anti Virus I use this at work, and it didn’t do that good in the virus definition list, but has great heuristic skills to find out new viruses.

The other one is Active Virus Shield by AOL. I know that it says AOL but it is just a rebranded Kaspersky program that is free. This did great on the definition list.

Ironically the big name ones like Symantec and McAfee didn’t do that good. Guess it shows that independent software makers raelly put more effort in their programming, while the others rely on corporate liablity.

When I visit a coffee shop or a public place with my pbook I make a effort to have my back against the wall so that no one can come behind and shoulder surf. It just feels akward and just an invasion of privacy.

So if you have this issue too and use Windows then I suggest this program: TunnelVision. It is a free program made by the same guy who did WinAmp. It blacks out your whole screen and only the area where your mouse is becomes visible, buy thus blocking most of the screen and any place where you eyes aren’t.

You can can control the size and shape of the visible area, as well as the color of the black out, or even make it an image.

This is a really handy program think I will even use it at work when I have people over.

Now I need to see if there is one for MacOSX one.

We have all seen the World Cup Excel sheets that have been going around with the schedule and area to place the goals of the World Cup matches, diagnosis but it really is a pain to open up Excel and enter that data.

Luckily they are some big fans of football and also know how to code. I have been using this programE-Link.it – Germany 2006 to keep track of the games and use its update feature to enter the goals. I have it on my work (windows) and on my home (Mac) computers and it works perfectly.

It is a great companion for the World Cup.

Old draft wrote it in May 18 2005 at 12:02 figured should publish itThe New York Times is going to paid subscribtion service for their op-ed and news columnists. So all you Friedman fans will have to pay to read his articles now.
It is a strange week, illness just after CNN removed their subscrition service, info and LA times did the same just earlier this year, website like this NY Times has to go backwards.
I dont know who is going to pay for this service, cause I know I won’t. Salon tried the subscrition service route for their premium content and just kept losing money and they didn’t get a profit til they they removed that divide. Now they still have subscriber service but that just removes ads and gives a couple extra perks.
The problem with the internet and subscrition service is that people dont like to pay for something they can’t hold or own in their hand especially when they are just going to read it for 5 minutes when they are sitting on a computer. When people buy magazines and news papers its not just for the content but the portablity of it. I can access the internet on my phone and read websites, but I still buy magazines cause I can take it with me anywhere and easily share it with my friends.
What the NY Times needs to do is what I told Salon create a printable version of their content in a magazine form. And now with syndicated feeds becoming more popular you can create your own news paper. Imagine picking and choose what you read in a paper and have it printed in the morning like a podcast and take it with you.

Today is not my day. Last night at diwaniya we wanted to see the C-Span Boodai interview either transcript of video. I did a couple searches and couldn’t only find the C-Span Archive Program page, more about with an option to order it for $29.95. Since I couldn’t find it and it had some merit on finding out the truth I ordered it.

As soon as I order it. I see that is available on YouTube (people need to tag and describe their files better). Then I check my phone and see an sms from my friend with the website of Jboodai.com where the whole thing is available as a download!

So annoyed and pissed that I spent that money, cause it has no real merit. It is not like a movie that I can forget about and see it later, or a book. I guess once I get it I will donate it to a university library or something. They could make some use of it in their catalog.

You know there is a lesson to be learned here. Just pirate movies and dvds. It really isn’t worth buying them, cause once you buy it you will find it available for free online.

Saudi Jeans is reporting that: Saudi Arabia is reducing fuel prices!. This is really a strange twist with the whole world increasing fuel prices, ambulance Saudi decreases there.

This quote from the Saudi Press Agency really has me worried:

[R]educing petrol prices for consumers in the Kingdom to improve the standards of citizens’ living.

For reducing fuel prices by 25-30% can either mean two things.

  • The standard of living is low that people are either eating dinner, human enhancement or putting gas in their car.
  • That this is an economic strategy to increase consumer spending in the country
  • Either one is having my brain wave all sorts of red flags. I recall my trip to Saudi back in Sept 2004 and was talking to this Saudi guy and he was telling me of his financial struggles. I guess this is King Abduallah’s quick fix for the situtation.

Sometimes the pictures are the things themselves, other times it just a reference to the text below.

It has me wondering, what is the saddest thing I own.

I have tons of pictures of friends that I dont see anymore. I guess it is those memories of them.

What is yours?

I mentioned ages ago about end of blogging and how it is going to be from an active role in your life to a more pasive one. Well here is the first wave of this.

Now your XBOX360 gaming can have it’s own blog on360voice.com which pull it’s data from your XBOX Live gamertag

The blog that is created is really informative in an entertaining way.

Here is some examples from Major Nelson

Keeps track of the games he played and their scores

Major Nelson’s Xbox – 05/01/06

Major Nelson rocked out with 3392 points. He played Battlefield 2: MC, find Bankshot Billiards 2, and Marble Blast Ultra, ampoule as well as basked in the glow of my great blade navigation interface!

Maybe he decided to listen to some music instead

Major Nelson’s Xbox – 04/29/06

Good thing I have access to Major Nelson’s entire MP3 collection streamed off his computer. It keeps me busy on days like yesterday when he never shows up to game.

Or simply do nothing

Major Nelson’s Xbox – 04/27/06

Yesterday, Major Nelson decided to spend his time elsewhere… machines don’t feel lonely… really we don’t…

This is just the begining, already the Nokia N93 will have the ability to upload pictures straight to Flickr or blog to Typepad via Nokia’s Life Blog.

More and more life is getting Syncdicated.

Al Kuwait 1955 (3)

I just found some old pics of Kuwait taken by amkoffee‘s Dad when he was here with the Navy back in 1950.

They are really good quality pics and has me wondering who was there and what was going on.

Update:

Found out who the pictures of the people are:
Abduallah Mubarka
Sabah Al-Nasser
Ezzat Jaffer

I dont know what is wrong with me today. I just feel drained. It is like I had no sleep or something. I know I had my standard 6-7 hours of sleep, and I woke up fine and naturally at 7ish, injection had my regular frosted flake breakfast. Then work as usual, yet feel just out of it.

When I left work I stopped by the baqala and picked up my super supplement that always fixes me up when I am tried or hungry. Bounty bar, Pepsi and Kitco chips. They were ok for a short time, but really didn’t fix the problem.

I dont know, it is just Sunday, and I feel like this. I hate to see what Tuesday brings.

We all know how Mark loves to write letter and complain about subjects that bother and annoy him, neuropathologist but he has nothing on Guy Petzall.

Guy Petzall has written letters to everything. He has asked the Pork producers, recipe “why they can’t get milk from pigs”, or which type of diapers would be good for older people at parties where they can’t access the bathroom, or why has British Airways replace the location of air sick bags.

It is not the content of his letters, but the replies he gets from the companies that are they real enjoyment.

Here is a great video of Steve Jobs demonstrating his NeXTSTEP. I always loved the NeXT system. I remember using my friends NeXT box before OSX came out and just fascinated by it. There were all these little things that just worked and functioned just right. It is also one of my favorite GUI.

It is quiet interesting that this was made in 1992 and how everyone is using it now as OSX and we are still fascinated by how smooth and easy it is, viagra
when all it really is a face lift of NeXT.

You may all know about the pink Lamborgini Diablo that was around a while ago, contagion and might have seen the pink H2, site Jaguar, SLK, Range Rover (I’ve seen the HSE, but not the Sport but hear it exists). Most of these are OK cause with their choice of colors since I’ve seen women driving them. Yet some of the colors are in a strange mix of Barbie dream car pink and just ugly and surprisingly men are driving it. Yet today I’ve known it has gone to far, it has jumped the shark. I’ve seen a pink mini van…

Short or Full?

I ussually dont know where to put posts like these, look should they belong in KuwaitBlogs.com, here or just not post them at all. So figure just put it here.

Been working on Safatoo so that we can have a complete switch from Safat. Yet been facing some crazy weird upgrade issues with Safatoo with the MySQL stuff and it has been really annoying. Some of you may have noticed some issues with it on Wed.

It is really tough finding a good web based aggregator that just places stuff on a page based on time. Most are oriented for personal aggregators and have their own system. I been using Drupal as the base for Safat and really it is the best I’ve seen, complicated and annoying at times but it is a work horse.

Hopefully I plan to get some hack working for Safatoo “soon” so that I can do some more upgrades on it and have it stable. One issue we been having is the update problem it just doesn’t do it. That is one of the reasons I removed that shiny /aggregator/ look and have it more ugly looking on the address bar. I think that solved the problem but still need to do an upgrade.

One thing I been thinking about is that Drupal has some great features in it and I just use one, the aggregator. So been thinking of using some more. Like creating a Kuwait Blogs forum in it as well as giving users a personal space for things.

I have been bouncing the idea via some friends and not getting a real positive response. Also is it something that I want to focus on, and that is it part of the core competencies of Kuwait Blogs? Some of you may have tested my chat server for Kuwait Blogs. It was an interesting experiment but I really didn’t find it viable for people cause then you’d have people chatting and not blogging. As well as if people want to chat with each other they figure out how to do it via MSN mass chats and just meeting each other.

There are some other things I need to free up some time on and dedicate a good couple hours to set it up. One is moving from MT to WP Yet I plan to do that after the Safatoo->Safat thing and readd the blogs on the blog roll from Safatoo’s list since that is the newly update and authenticated list.

There some other stuff that I am thinking about working on, doing some research on it and playing with it in my brain. This one is more for Arab community more than the Kuwait one.

So there it a quick synopsis on what I been working on and what I am planning. Any insights of suggestion I am up for. Also a big thanks to my Safatoo Goddesses for adding the blogs on there and dealing all those add blog requests. I dont know what I would have done with out you guys.

On Friday some friends and I were having a simple lunch when the conversation of venereal disease came up. It was about how do you get this, viagra 60mg
or what is the difference between this and that, this lead to me busting out my phone and accessing wikipedia for information and reading out loud how you get these diseases and their symptoms while munching on our lunch and breadsticks.

So today when I found this great Disney cartoon explaining venereal diseases. I just had to share it:

This is so much better than the menstruating one.

On Friday some friends and I were having a simple lunch when the conversation of venereal disease came up. It was about how do you get this, viagra 60mg
or what is the difference between this and that, this lead to me busting out my phone and accessing wikipedia for information and reading out loud how you get these diseases and their symptoms while munching on our lunch and breadsticks.

So today when I found this great Disney cartoon explaining venereal diseases. I just had to share it:

This is so much better than the menstruating one.
I been hammering it out with Feeds.KuwaitBlogs.com since I got home. I love just bashing it with WordPress and its PHP and template tags. Finally getting FeedWordpress to work is just great. I’ve tried it before but had issues with it not updating and an aggregator not updating is no use at all.

So here is where the fun begins. I hammered out some good stuff with it. I tried to recall all the issues we have had with Safat, cialis 40mg and even just getting a decent RSS feed setup for it.

One issue that people always hated and I spent ages with other programs trying to cut it was the long posters. You know the ones, unhealthy you just see it and then page long post about nothing. Well NO MORE. Little edit in the code and it will just show excerpts of the posts. So now you can get a quick glance of the post and continue down not having to read the whole thing, and this also removes pictures. Yes, pictures are pretty, but when you want to see what is new, and have to wait for a picture to load, or take up space it gets annoying.

Another feature, more of a hack is RSS feed of it. It is nothing exciting except for people who use. It will give you a better idea of who posted as Blog Name : Post Title, and attribute the author to Blog Name. It is something I felt was important cause seeing a list of posts on my personal aggregator I had no idea who posted that post unless I clicked on it to see author. This way you know which blog it came from.

The other thing that really helps out cause of excerpts is that it now will show you a days worth of post on the first page. Previous pages will show the previous day posts. This will really make it easier for people to read up on a days worth of posts and not have to hit previous all the time to catch up.

Since each aggregated posts is added to the blog, it makes it all searchable and archival . This feature is not that exciting now. But I believe in the future as more content is added it will really help out trying to find out information, and a zeitgeist of mood during the time.

I am going to mess with the theme for a bit, to find a really basic one that shows the content, as well as keep things to the minimum. I plan to remove the blog roll and have it on a separate page since that isn’t information people need to know. The sidebar will just contain the Kuwait Blog’s posts, and KuWiki (once I bring it back) ones.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for themes, and such, or even what to have on the side bar concerning Kuwait just drop it in the comments.

I added this really great feature in my opinion to the Feeds.KuwaitBlogs.com. The option to choose either Full or Short post listings. It will still show a days worth of posts, online but with this it gives the user the option to either quickly skim, or leisurely glance.
