Just found out that they are 30, somnology 000 taxis working Kuwait! I can’t believe that they are that many roaming the streets of Kuwait, cost and that the government has just released option for 1000 more. What the hell is going on? Has public transportation and city planning turned to such crap that we have to have taxis roaming the streets. It is going to be one madhouse.

This year for Eid I am going to make a list. I always end up forgetting someone so making a list seems the best way to remember and even save it for next Eid. Yet I will have two lists one for people I will just SMS the other to actually call. We are really gotten impersonal with this SMS thing over the years it is a great way to keep contact with people, order
but sometimes it is nice to give em a call and say it with your voice.

Tiredness sleep.

Tiredness sleep.

What a day; this was a full museum trifecta.

The first one that I went to was the Gezira Art Center: Musuem of Islamic Ceramics.

This was a great musuem that had ceramic art ranging from the Fatimiya/Abasyia period and the all the way till if I recall correctly the Ottoman empire.Really wonderful works you can see the many influnces from Persian and even Chinese art in thse pieces in terms of color and brush styles. There were two peices that caught my eye. One was a regular jug but the Persian writing was in reverse, drugs I pointed it out to the curator and even he was astonished bny it for he never noticed it. The other was more of a pcractical thing, some juges came with artistic war filtering system that would block debris in the water from coming out.

After this musuem it was the Mohammed Mahmood Khalil Musuem. This one is a totally different collection. It is based on Khalil private collection of contempary European art. There was a Van Gogh, Renior, Monet and many others. There was also a large collection of small Chinese boxes and I guess from the few that were opened had some religous or scenic thing.

After a light lunch it was time for the Musuem of Egyptian Modern Art and this was really overwhelming. I really can’t go into explaining or even capturing the stuff that is in here. They were filling the walls with art and it was so many. So many colors, shapes and styles. I was talking to the guy there and he told me there is even more in storage. Such a shame for it is great stuff, but just so much to take in at one sitting.

This is where I got a bit lost. I decided to walk to my hotel. I recalled from the taxi ride that the Marriot hotel, which is a great place to stay in Cairo. Good location, nice rooms (Zamalek Tower) and great facilities in food and others.

So I started walking, and walking and um walking. I asked a couple times and they said it was straight and I knew it was, but they also mentioned it was a long way and boy it was long.

But I enjoyed it I was checking out street signs and taking pictures of them. I was walking on Om Khaltom road and just kept taking pictures of the street sign and the cool or strange part was that each street sign had a differt stytle adn sometimes name for her. Either Mrs Om Khalthom or just Om Khalthom or just Arabic.

This also gave me a chacne to walk in to the Cairo neighborhoods and it is filled with some great life. Really feels just wodnerful walking in the city with the people livin gtheir lives around you.

I kept walking and finalyl think I got whereII needed to be and still felt lost, then I recall this building I took pictures of from my hotel room and it was infront of me and was just across the street. I got back around 8 and was dead tired.

Oh the picture that is attached has a strange story. The Islamic art musuem is located in an old castle/palace built around early 1900s and this watch was located in the upstairs bathroom by the sink where the mirror would be. It was just strange for it to be there and especially at that time.

and was actually good at it if I recall correctly.

Now I cant even get 5 lines done. I think I need to get some practice in.

I am a Mac guy, look but use Windows at work and always get asked what is the best anti virus program. Luckily someone has made a And nice lsit of tested antivirus programs, and two that got high marks are FREE.

One is AVG Anti Virus I use this at work, and it didn’t do that good in the virus definition list, but has great heuristic skills to find out new viruses.

The other one is Active Virus Shield by AOL. I know that it says AOL but it is just a rebranded Kaspersky program that is free. This did great on the definition list.

Ironically the big name ones like Symantec and McAfee didn’t do that good. Guess it shows that independent software makers raelly put more effort in their programming, while the others rely on corporate liablity.

Vote for Me, I Have a Blog

If it wasn’t for the maid always watching KTV2 I swear we would never know about any news in Kuwait. They interrupted regular programing for the speech by the Emir. Basically he said what we have been expecting. Parliament has been dissolved and that voting of the new parliament will occur in June 22nd 29 with the female voters.

It will be a very interesting day.

Inspired by CaffeinatedKuwaiti’s comment that if I ran for Parliament I would have her vote. So it got me thinking who out of the Kuwait blogosphere would be a good option to run for Parliament soley based on that they have a blog.

My are my three choices would be:

  • SS Stallion: He is political, salve passionate and is active in forming relationships and his political convictions.
  • Purgatory: It is Purg! It is vote for him or death.
  • Maryam: She is our resident astronaut and with her as an MP she would inspire the educational program and get Kuwait into space.

Who would your three be?

I just saw this amusing piece called Six Signs It’s a Scam on Motley Fool. It lists simple things to pay attention to when purchasing an investment.

The thing that I enjoyed when reading it is comparing it to the Kuwait Stock Market.

The ones that really caught my eye were number 3 and 6.

3. Predictions of the future. “It will double in three months.”

6. A “hot inside tip.”

How many times have we heard that in the diwaniya when mentioning a stock. Even the funny part is they say it will double in a week.

Cause then if you are doing something based on those ideas are you investing or gambling?

How well do you know brands? Do you know them so well that you can draw them?

Thats what this group did. They got people to draw famous brands and see how well they compared to the real thing.

They had some that were down right perfect like Coca Cola and Adidas. Others like Apple were decent, endocrinologist same with Toyota.

I think that is cause their consumers were from Austria and don’t see those brands as often as others.

Fascinating to just think how well we know these images from seeing and using them on a regular basis that we can draw them perfectly just from memory.

How many global brands could you draw like the Coco Cola one?

We Arabs and Muslims always get a bad wrap in the world and people call us backwards and well other term questioning our intelligence and contributions to the world.

Thankfully there are people who know better and made a great website called 1001 Inventions detailing 1001 inventions by Muslims in home, generic school, sickness
market, recipe
hospitals, towns, the world and the universe. It is really a great read and brings things to a great perspective.

Yet if you dont want to go through all 1001 inventions you can check out The Independents: How Islamic inventors changed the world where they pick out the top 20 in their opinion.

Foreign Policy has released a new index of Failed States. It list countries that have internal and external struggles that are causing trouble to the government and failing as a provider for their people.

They use 12 social and economic, generic
political and military indicators to bring this list of 60 countries.

Arab Countries on the list:
4) Iraq
28) Syria
36) Lebanon
38) Egypt
45) Saudi Arabia
51) Bahrain

I am really suprised that Bahrain on the list, story
but according to them they have high marks in the Uneven Development, Delegitimization of State, and Security Apparatus.

I would really like to see a complete list and see where Kuwait is on the list.

The 25 [Somewhat] Shocking Moments in Movie History

I just did a quiz for myIslam Knowledge. It is pretty easy and straight forward for people who dont know about Islam for it really asks some insightful questions in order to teach.

I got two wrong in it. One was the population of Muslims in the US, eczema stomach
and one about Ramadan (doh).

Give it a try.
